Old-school Italian tradition meets a modern Texas dining experience in the heart of Kalahari Resorts in Round Rock.
There is something special about an Italian restaurant built around more than recipes. At Sortino’s Italian Kitchen in Round Rock, Texas, the story begins with family, tradition and the kind of food that has been bringing people together around the dinner table for generations.
Located inside Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, Sortino’s describes itself as a new-age red-sauce restaurant where old-school Italian cuisine meets the modern age. But you don’t need to be staying at Kalahari to enjoy it. Local diners are welcome, and complimentary valet parking is available.
A Family Story More Than 60 Years in the Making
The Sortino story began more than six decades ago in Sandusky, Ohio, where Giorgio and Giacomo “Jimmy” Sortino established a family-owned restaurant. Brothers George and Jimmy Sortino later carried on the tradition, sharing the authentic Sicilian recipes of their father, Michele, with their community.
Today, Kalahari Resorts partners with the Sortino family to introduce those traditions to new generations of diners while keeping the family connection alive.
That history gives Sortino’s something that can’t simply be manufactured as part of a restaurant theme. Behind the contemporary dining room is a genuine family food tradition rooted in Sicily.
Come Hungry
The menu is exactly the kind of menu you hope to find when someone promises old-school Italian comfort food.
Among Chef George Sortino’s signature dishes are Pasta Mafia, Chick-A Chick-A Boom, Lasagna Bolognese, Pasta Diavolo and Steak Pizziolo — Sinatra’s Way. There is even a Sicilian Love Dip among George’s favorites.
The restaurant also celebrates another cornerstone of Italian dining: pizza. Sortino’s is known for its brick-oven pizzas, continuing a tradition that has been part of George Sortino’s career for decades.
Whether you’re looking for a hearty pasta dinner, a classic Italian favorite or pizza fresh from the brick oven, this is food designed to make dinner feel like an occasion.
Make an Evening of It
One of the nicest things about Sortino’s is its location. You’ll find it on the lobby entrance floor of Kalahari Resorts Round Rock, toward the Convention Center. Kalahari itself is located on U.S. 79 across from Dell Diamond and Old Settlers Park.
That makes Sortino’s worth considering even if you never set foot in the waterpark. You can make it a destination of its own — arrive for dinner, enjoy a leisurely Italian meal, perhaps stop for gelato or a drink afterward, and make an evening of it.
At its heart, however, Sortino’s remains about something much simpler: family and food.
For more than 60 years, the Sortino name has been associated with sharing Sicilian recipes with family, friends and guests. Today that tradition has found a home in Round Rock.
And really, isn’t that what a great Italian dinner is supposed to be about?
More Than Just Dinner
The larger Sortino’s experience at Kalahari includes Pizzeria Sortino, Sortino’s Café & Gelato and the Vinoteca Wine Lounge.
Vinoteca provides an inviting stop for adults who want to linger over a glass of wine or a handcrafted cocktail. The wine selection ranges from approachable Italian favorites to special bottles for diners looking to turn dinner into a celebration.
Families, meanwhile, haven’t been forgotten. Sortino’s offers a kids menu, making it an easy choice when you want a proper sit-down Italian dinner without leaving the younger members of the family behind.
And if you’re planning something bigger, Sortino’s also accommodates private dining and group events.
