Some restaurants are built around the food. Others are all about the bar or the big game. COVER 3 has spent more than 15 years bringing all three together under a concept it calls “Dining, Spirits & Sports.”
The result is something a little more polished than the neighborhood sports bar, without losing the casual atmosphere that makes gathering around a game fun. Whether it’s lunch with a client, dinner with the family or an afternoon watching your favorite team with friends, COVER 3 is designed to accommodate all three.
Much More Than Game-Day Food
COVER 3 describes its menu as inventive American fare prepared with fresh ingredients and cooked to order, and there’s considerably more variety than wings and burgers.
Start with something made for sharing, such as the Greek Island Calamari with crispy artichokes, feta and heirloom tomatoes; Mongolian Pork Lettuce Wraps; Chipotle Ranch Fried Pickles; or The Triple—a combination of white queso, guacamole and roasted tomato salsa. Round Rock also gets something the Austin location doesn’t: a selection of flatbreads and a Giant Pretzel served with white queso and Creole mustard.
For something more substantial, choices range from the French Onion Truffle Burger and Prime Rib Sandwich to Mahi Mahi Tacos, Blackened Chicken & Shrimp Pasta, Verde Chicken Enchiladas and Brick Chicken Mac N Cheese. There are also chef features including filet mignon, Hong Kong Salmon and grilled ruby trout.
In other words, you can come for the football and still have dinner that doesn’t look as though it came from a concession stand.
A Social Hour Worth Arriving Early For
COVER 3’s bar is every bit as important to the concept as its kitchen, with draft beer, wine and a cocktail menu ranging from margaritas and martinis to its C3 Old Fashioned and COVER 3 Press. cover-3.com
Weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. bring Social Hour, with $4 Karbach drafts, $5 frozen house margaritas, $6 well cocktails and $8 selections of DAOU wine. The kitchen gets involved too, offering $7 plates including deviled eggs with candied applewood-smoked bacon, blackened shrimp tostadas, verde chicken taquitos and Burger Bombs. Social Hour specials are dine-in only.
That makes COVER 3 as suitable for an after-work get-together as it is for settling in to watch an evening game.
Come for Dinner. Stay for the Game.
Sports are clearly part of COVER 3’s personality, but they haven’t allowed the televisions to become the entire identity of the restaurant. That’s probably the most interesting thing about the concept.
You can meet someone for a weekday lunch, bring the family for dinner, stop in for Social Hour, make brunch your weekend destination—or grab a table with friends when there’s a game you don’t want to miss. COVER 3 even asks guests making reservations to mention a particular game they’d like to watch; while the restaurant can’t guarantee a specific television or table, staff will try to accommodate the request.
It’s an approach that makes the name particularly appropriate: good food, good drinks and sports—all covered.
Don't Forget About Brunch
COVER 3 changes gears on Saturday and Sunday with brunch from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The menu mixes familiar breakfast favorites with Texas and Southwestern influences. You’ll find Eggs Tournedos with beef tenderloin and hollandaise alongside migas, chilaquiles, biscuits and gravy, avocado toast and Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs. Round Rock even gets its own Giant Cinnamon Pretzel with cream-cheese icing dip.
And then there’s the Bloody Mary & Bubbles Bar, where guests can put together their own Bloody Mary or mimosa using the available mixers and fixings.
